  • What happens when memories of the past and dreams of the future collide? Sometimes people have no choice but to try and transform the present...

Chandralekha moves between India's anti-colonial movement in the 1920's and the struggles against British racism in the 1990's - from the court room to the heart of the family.

Chandralekha is a mythical Indian figure made flesh - creative, humorous and powerful, she lives out her many lives exploring universal truths about equality, tolerance and freedom.

In this, her first play for the stage, acclaimed journalist and commentator Amrit Wilson examines the particular experience of being Asian in Britain today. This unmissable production looks behind the headlines at life filled with wit, courage and human warmth.

Reviews
"Chandralekha is a play that pulls at the heart strings and leaves one numb with pathos and horror"
The News International

"Not a straight telling of a woman’s own life story but an epic narration of her views as an individual, the plot hits you with its bone cutting trenchancy There are no compensations. It is as if all the tethers that keep you safe at harbour have been surreptitiously slashed, consigning you to the ocean.

Unsparing in its weight of argument every possibility and ambiguity is allowed into the equation and it is up to the performers to solve it to their satisfaction with the strength of their performances. The entire cast throw them selves in it with a gusto that results in an unfalteringly consistent flow."
