Vamps, Vixens and Feminists: The Elephant in the Room
Gender Equality Conference Great Success
Sphinx Theatre are thrilled to announce that on Tuesday, 16th June 09 the Vamps, Vixens and Feminists Conference was a resounding success. Held at the Olivier at the National Theatre, the turnout was fantastic and the Speakers inspiring. Issues related to the Gender Equality Duty were discussed and new ideas for progress were generated.
The discussions began with detailed presentations of the opportunities offered by the Gender Equality Duty and continued through four panels of leading professionals analysing and assessing gender discrimination within their own disciplines. The complexity of contemporary femininity was also debated.
There was an overwhelming acknowledgment by speakers and audience of discrimination and a determination to pursue the relevant bodies and authorities for the opportunities to redress the gender imbalance. The conference culminated in a range of concrete suggestions for progress.
If you attended the Conference or you support gender equality in the arts, we would encourage you to sign the Equity petition for the Equal Representation on Women in Film/TV Drama. The online petition can be found at Go Petition HERE.
